Illness and infection

It is very important that we control the spread of infection at the Pre-School, in order to do so we enforce the following exclusion times:

Common Cold/Tonsillitis

Management discretion is applied however the child must be deemed as generally well in themselves and happy to be at preschool – if they have needed Calpol etc before they come – they probably would be better staying at home.

Head lice

Treatment must start immediately after head lice has been detected.

Diarrhoea and/or vomiting, Gastroenteritis or Food Poisoning

Children must be clear of symptoms for 48 hours since the last loose stool or period of vomiting.

Bacterial Conjunctivitis

Until treated with antibiotic cream for 24 hours.

Chicken Pox

Until all blisters are dry and the child’s general health is normal.

Whooping Cough

5 days from the commencement of antibiotic treatment.

German Measles

5 days from the onset of a rash.

Measles

5 days from the onset of a rash.

Hand, Foot and Mouth

Until blisters are dry and the child’s general health is normal.

Mumps

5 days from the onset of swollen glands.

Impetigo

5 days from the onset of a rash, until all crusts have dried and sores are no longer crusty

Meningitis

If your child is diagnosed with this illness, you must contact the pre-school as soon as you possibly can so the management can take prompt action

Please help stop the spread of germs/infections by taking note of the above advice.

The above list is not exhaustive, for further information on childhood illnesses and the signs and symptoms which accompany these please visit the NHS website at www.nhs.uk.

If your child should become unwell whilst at Nursery you will be contacted and asked to collect them as soon as possible or you must ensure somebody is available to collect your child this will help stop the spread of any of the above.
