At St. Agnes Pre-school we aim to encourage purposeful play and integrate social activities in a happy secure learning environment. Promoting healthy lifestyles.

We want children to feel safe and happy in the absence of their parents, to recognize other adults as a source of authority, help and friendship and to be able to share with their parents afterwards the new learning experiences enjoyed in pre-school. Children cannot play or learn successfully if they are anxious and unhappy. Our settling procedures aim to help parents to help their children feel comfortable in the pre-school, to benefit from what it has to offer, and to be confident that their parents will return at the end of the session.

We also operate a holiday club here between the hours of 8am – 5pm, which will run over Easter, Summer and all half terms excluding the Christmas break and bank holidays.

At present we only open for Preschool children, reception, year 1 and year 2.

Booking forms will be available from the office nearer the time of each club.

We aim to make the transition from Pre-school into school as easy as possible for each individual child.

When you enrol your child for Pre-school sessions, we would ask you to respect that your child’s progress will be observed and recorded; this is so base lines will be established. This information will be treated confidentially. Any concerns will be discussed with you.

When planning for the children, we follow the aims of the “Early Years Development Matters”

Practitioners must reflect on the different rates at which children are developing and adjust their practice appropriately.

Three characteristics of effective teaching and learning are:

• playing and exploring – children investigate and experience things,
and ‘have a go’
• active learning – children concentrate and keep on trying if they
encounter difficulties, and enjoy achievements
• creating and thinking critically – children have and develop their own
ideas, make links between ideas, and develop strategies for doing things  We have arranged our policies to meet with these principles, although several policies overlap more than one theme, so we have arranged them in the order of priority theme.

 

FUNDING

All early years settings have been asked by the DfE (Department for Education) to provide you with some information regarding Funding.

From 2 January 2024, eligible working parents can apply for 15 hours of childcare for their two-year-old. Parents have until 31 March 2024 to apply for a code, with mid-January to the end of February being the optimum time to apply in case they need to provide further information to support their application.

To apply for a childcare code each parent needs to be working and earning the equivalent of 16 hours a week at national minimum/living wage and under £100,000 adjusted net income per year. This means that each parent needs to earn from just over £8,600 per year to be eligible for 15 hours a week of childcare during term time.

Your child will be funded from April 2024

To claim funding you will be required to complete and return a parent declaration form, along with funding code (if applicable) and proof of your child’s date of birth (passport or birth certificate).

30 Hour Funding Extended Entitlement

As well as the free 15 hours some working families may be eligible for an additional 15 hours per week for their 3 or 4-year-old.  Please check the following website to see if you’re eligible for these extra hours. www.gov.uk/apply-30-hours-free-tax-free-childcare.  If you’re successful you will receive a funding code. You will need to apply this code to your Child’s funding form. You must then sign into your account every 3 months to update your details and check your eligibility.
